HITSVILLE: THE MAKING OF MOTOWN PREMIERE AND AFTER PARTY
A historic night took place at the Harmony Gold Theater in LA. Legends of Motown, from 60 years ago to the present, gathered with other icons in music and entertainment for the premiere of the anticipated documentary Hitsville: The Making of Motown. Notable guests included founder Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Mary Wilson, Claudette Robinson, Clarence Avant, James Corden, Coach K and Pee of Quality Control, and more. It was truly a Motown family affair. The night shifted to Fig & Olive, which was transformed to bring Hitsville to the Gold Coast. With golden records flying, music blasting, and food and drinks flowing, the night was the purest form of celebration of not only the documentary, but 60 years of the unmatched legacy of the Sound of Young America.

BERRY GORDY - ICON AWARD
Founder Berry Gordy was honored with Capitol Music Group’s 2019 Icon Award for leading the charge of what has turned into an eternal legacy of trailblazing music. The award was presented by current president Ethiopia Habtemariam and Capitol Chairman and CEO, Steve Barnett.

VINCE STAPLES - SIGNS WITH MOTOWN, NEW MUSIC, JAMELE HILL IS UNBOTHERED PODCAST
Motown Records announced the signing of rising rap star, Vince Staples, in tandem with its partnership with Blacksmith Recordings. Staples was warmly welcomed to the label family and introduced his new signing and upcoming music on a live taping of the Jamele Hill is Unbotheredpodcast.

QUAVO - TO START ANIMATED KIDS SHOW WITH IMAGINE
Quality Control star, Quavo, announced his partnership with Imagine Kids+Family in starting an upcoming animated kids show. The series will target 8 to 12-year-olds and will highlight hip hop and culture in Atlanta.

MELINA MATSOUKAS - TO RELEASE QUEEN & SLIM SOUNDTRACK WITH MOTOWN RECORDS
Director Melina Matsoukas, known for her directing work on Insecure, Master of None, and Beyonce’s Formation video, will be making her film directing debut with the upcoming flick Queen & Slim. The film stars academy award nominee Daniel Kaluuya and newcomer Jodie Turner-Smith. Matsoukas sat with Motown President Ethiopia Habtemariam for a chat about her experience directing the film and the intersection of music and film.

BJ THE CHICAGO KID - EXPERIENCE 1123 WITH BOSE AR
Capitol Music Group announced a one-year partnership with Bose AR to usher in a new augmented-audio reality experience. They tested the new tech with tracks from BJ The Chicago Kid’s latest album, 1123, following a performance of his track “Time Today.”
