Warman's Antiques & Collectibles 2016
By Noah Fleisher
For nearly 70 years, Warman's Antiques & Collectibles has been serving the interests of collectors, with historic information, insightful collecting advice, values, and stunning photographs of a wide variety of antiques and collectibles.
Warman's Antiques & Collectibles 2016 continues that tradition with information about traditional collecting interests such as glass and pottery to the more eclectic, including maritime artifacts and celebrity collectibles. With more than 50 categories (nearly 75 including brand categories within glass and ceramics and pottery) in this 800 page tome, Warman's represents both substance and style, not unlike the items featured within its pages.
Check out sample intros of the new categories in the 49th edition:
Animation Art
The love and influence of animation goes all the way back to the early 20th century and the inception of the art form. It took firm hold of American hearts and souls in the 1920s with the advent of Walt Disney's revolutionary mouse and his groundbreaking Silly Symphonies. It continued in the 1940s with Warner Brothers cartoons and Merry Melodies. It soared through the 1950s and 1960s with cartoons from Jay Ward and Hanna-Barbera, who dominated the 1970s as well.

Beatles Memorabilia
The Beatles have made new fans in every single generation that has followed their American debut in 1964. For 50 years parents have turned their kids on to Beatles music, and those kids have carried that torch forward to the next generation. You name it - autographs, clothing, instruments, images, toys - all of them are commanding top dollar from fl ea markets to conventions, auctions, shows, shops, and everything in between.

Celebrity Memorabilia
There are evergreen names in celebrity memorabilia - Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne, Elvis Presley, The Beatles (who are so evergreen they have their own section in this book) - that will cost you a pretty penny. You don't have to spend a fortune to start a good collection, however, especially if you are smart about your buying and have a good idea of what you want. If you can't compete for the high profile five-and six-figure items (even millions these days), with an intrepid eye and sensible budget you might just end up surprising yourself with what you can accomplish.

Children's Literature
Given my position with Warman's and my history in the antiques and collectibles business, then, it is a short leap to the collecting side of the equation. These are great books, many of them, and timeless. It's easy to covet the first editions, to see these tales in their original glory as the publishers first presented them and readers of whatever era first enjoyed them.

Mantiques
Although the word "mantiques," used to describe items appealing to guys, has existed for about 30 years, the concept of the mantique is ancient. When they weren't chasing mammoths off cliffs, our ancestors were saving interesting stones, carving ivory tusks, or trading with other tribes. Why go through the trouble? The dude with the coolest stuff was seen as better able to care for off spring or lead the tribe to greatness. From Alibaba's lamp to Luke Skywalker's lightsaber (it is a hand-me-down, remember), mantiques are in our DNA.

Vintage Fashion
The history of fashion is a mirror to the future. Nearly every style has already been done in some form and is reproduced with variations today. The popularity and demand for vintage pieces are growing because clothing and accessories are great collectibles that are also a good investment.
